A temporary visa for individuals who are engaged to an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who are outside Australia.
The Partner visa combines a temporary and a permanent visa into one application. The temporary visa is granted first, allowing the partner to live in Australia for a specified period of time (usually 2 years). After the couple has been in a genuine relationship for at least 2 years, the permanent visa can be granted.
The common criteria for Australian Partner visas
Genuine relationship
Must be in a committed relationship with the sponsor for at least 12 months.

The sponsor must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
